I’d like to start this month’s article on a somber note. Our thoughts and prayers are
with Jack and Norma Padley with the recent passing of their daughter. Also, our
prayers go out to Lynn and Louise Lackey. Their daughter is receiving hospice care.
November is traditionally the month of thanksgiving. The celebration of the
Thanksgiving holiday is grounded in our national history when our economy was
largely agrarian or based on farming. Farmers and farm families across the nation
gathered in thankful celebration of the fall harvest and the crops stored in their
barns. Times have changed. We now live in the high speed, high tech information
age where life is truly complicated and complex, and people often find it difficult to
take the time to return thanks. This is where the Model A enters the picture. I often
hear stories where a Model A is discovered in an old barn that perhaps at one time
held the harvest crops. More than that, owning and driving a Model A provides us
with the opportunity to reflect back in time when people seemed to have more time,
and when people were more important than things. I am thankful for this opportu-
nity. I am also thankful for the leadership of those people who served on the board
during my tenure as president. Most of all, I am thankful for the wonderful people
in the Heart of America Model A Ford Club. I am also thankful for your friendship
and fellowship. In turn, you folks have cause to be thankful because at the end of
December, you won’t have to put up with my articles and technical advice any
more. Yeah! Finally, don’t forget to sign up for the Christmas party.
Thankfully,
Chris Launer
